Having
abandoned his clerical vows, if no less committed to God's cause
against the demons, Neville is seamlessly reabsorbed into the
English aristocracy. Convinced that the new king, Richard II,
is the Demon King, Hal Bolingbroke and Thomas Neville plot to
steal from Richard the casket that once belonged to Wynkyn de
Worde.
But
Richard is one step ahead of them. Before anyone can act, Richard
exiles Hal and Thomas, and it seems that the casket - as God's
cause - is more distant than ever.
As
England descends into peasant rebellion and civil war, Neville
finds himself suddenly in possession of the casket. But what
he discovers when he opens it horrifies him so greatly it tears
apart his entire world.
Nothing
has ever been as it has seemed, and Neville must re-evaluate
his entire perception, not only of the demons, but of the angels
as well.
